So What’s New?

331racing flier

Well it’s been some time since the last post, but things have been pretty busy.  I just finished up the race plates for 331racing.com, in fact the first race at Vultures Knob is this weekend.  Alas I cannot be there, in spirit I suppose.  I hope to attend all future races, so those of you wanting to see ‘that guy’ behind the 331 promo stuff will have that opportunity.

Anyone interested custom race jerseys? Hit me up.

Aside from that I will be putting together some pieces for 331racing.com, mainly my past work for them to display on their website.  A special thanks to those guys for wanting to do that for me. The fliers for 331 were printed and distributed as well, and the full version can be found in the visual section.

Other things in the works currently; I’m reworking/redesigning the Edge Outdoors website.  This is an ongoing project, but everything is coming together nicely.  In addition to their website, I have designed the team jerseys for the shop.  I know I’m kinda biased, but I really dig the way it came out.  The guys over at PrimalWear are printing them, and I can’t wait for the finished product.  Too bad the wait is going to be another six to eight weeks.  I will post the finished product in the visual section when we get them delivered.

That’s all for now.  I will really try to keep this thing more up-to-date so look for more, soon.

I’ve Got A Feeling

The Black Eyed Peas

Black Eyed Peas photo from scrapetv.com

… that to make a successful commercial, all one needs is an open checkbook and the Black Eyed Peas.  I cannot recall any music group who has so blatantly turned into a commercial product pusher.  I’m not hating on them for it, I just can’t take them seriously.  Too bad, I kinda liked their first album.  I’m wondering if this is the direction they, (B.E.P), had in mind from the beginning?  If it is- they are brilliant, but if they just kinda fell into it and ran- well then they’re sellouts.  I understand the association with wanting to be hip, to reach out to the younger generation but really?

So, a note to all advertising execs, yeah, they are popular now but please, show some restraint, and just say no.  You are labeling yourself as one of the Jones’ by using them.  If you are creative enough you should be able to do better than that, and for a lot less dollas.  Besides, you think that all those drunk people in the clubs grinding away to “I’ve Got A Feeling” and “Meet Me Halfway” are thinking, “damn, I better get my ass to Target on the way home” or “this place is so lame, I wonder what’s on DirectTV right now.”  I don’t think so…

Update

Well the site is coming along and the word is about to go public about it’s relaunch.  I thought I’d put together another couple of posts before then, and with this one, take the time to briefly talk about the design of this site.

The background is just a collage of different “interesting elements”, kind of representative of images/ideas that float in my head at any given time.  It’s not necessarily supposed to make much sense, so don’t read too much into it.  Think of it simply as ‘eye-candy’.  However, some of you may not see much, if any, of what I’m speaking of because of your monitor’s resolution.  Those out there whose monitors support 1900×1200 will see the background entirely, and those with smaller screens will only see a portion of the background.

I like open spaces, makes a person humble.  Hence, the deep space background in the header and footer, at the top and bottom of each page.  There is some sort of strange, symbiotic relationship with that part of the mind where ideas come from, and space.  If you’ve ever laid back and stared at the night sky and just let your mind wander, you can sort of see where I’m coming from.  But getting back to the design, in the header, the multi-colored image represents two areas of this site.  One pertains to the audio portion, which is the equalizer display itself; and the color of it, CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black) pertains to the visual portion, of the site.  The tagline I’ve created at the top is basically my thought process when trying to come up with an idea for a particular project:

  • Analyze – identify what is to be achieved and the current state, if any, of the initial idea.
  • Conceptualize – basically brainstorming the information gathered from the first step.
  • Visualize – taking the result of the brainstorming and figuring out how to best put the idea into a tangible format.
  • Create – the actual rendering and completion of the idea.
  • There are those out there that are not too fond of white text on a dark background.  They may find it difficult to read.  Sorry people, that’s just the way it is and I don’t think it’s too hard on the eyes.  Sometimes, a stark white background with black text has the same effect on me.  I tried to keep the text to a minimum and let the other content do the talking.

I wanted to keep this site as simple and straight-forward as possible, and I think I’ve achieved that.  I will be making small tweaks on a continual basis, but it won’t affect the operation or functionality of the site.  That’s it for now. Later…

    The First Post

First Post.  Kind of a test I guess.  This site is still very much under construction.  Adding, tweaking, adjusting, you get the point.  The art galleries are coming along, I’m adding more and need to add the title and alt text for the images as well.  The music gallery is done- for now.  I have a few new tracks in the wings.  I’ll save that for a future post.

Other than that, I am looking into putting an rss feed, social network links, and flesh out the bio section.  That’s all I got for now.  As this site nears completion I will post more, I’m sure.
